About the Product

The Paramount series by Mohawk flooring is a high end laminate flooring product. This product has a lot of built in features you will not find in any other laminate flooring series. While it may be priced slightly higher than the average laminate floor, it is by no means average. The Paramount series by Mohawk at 12MM or just under 1/2” thick, is also the industry’s thickest product to date. This extra thickness translates into a very stable product. Let’s go from top to bottom and explain this product in detail. First, Mohawk uses a top layer they call GuardianShield. This is a commercial grade double DPL (Direct Pressure Laminate) wear surface that fuses multiple wear layers to provide an extra durable finish. Second, their CrystalShield is an additional layer of aluminum-oxide which fuses the top layer (GuardianShield) to the decorative design layer. Third is the design layer which is melamine resin-impregnated type. The next big feature of this product is the WaterGuard6 extra thick highly moisture resistant core. This specially designed core allows for no more than 6% water absorption. This low absorption helps prevent the product from swelling if moisture is present. Since the core is extra thick, this helps provide the floor with supreme stability. One really unique feature is Mohawk’s DuraLoc Plus locking system. This is a locking no-glue system with an added bonus, a “pre-applied adhesive” system. You simply wet the tongue during the installation to activate the pre-applied adhesive for a “tight as glued” seal at the seams. Also, the MoistureBlock bottom layer helps prevent moisture from ever getting to the core, as well as adding even more stability to the product. The last and most interesting feature is the attached Sound Inhibitor backing. This attached cushion provides built-in sound reduction for a more natural sounding floor, and eliminates the need for a separately installed underlayment.

This is a “long term” high quality laminate floor. With it’s slightly higher than average price tag it is certainly not the floor for everyone, but if you are looking for a product to hold up under adverse conditions, this is it. Mohawk has introduced some really unique features with this product. The one’s that stick out in our minds are the “pre-applied adhesive” locking system, the fact that there is a sound-reducing backing attached to the floor, and the 12MM thickness for added stability. We’ve seen a lot of laminate floors but this one is certainly unique, and we feel it is definitely worth the extra money. When shopping for flooring some consumers get hung up on price. While it is important to get a fair price, it is more important to get a product worth the money. This is especially true when you are expecting a flooring product to hold up for several years and be as maintenance free as possible. If you are a customer that understands value, and that value doesn’t mean simply the “lowest priced product”, then this may be a strong consideration. We give this product a high rating not only for all of the features, but also for the warranty and the company, Mohawk, that will stand behind it.
